Proposal Application

Alleghany's Promise is accepting applications from nonprofit or governmental agencies for grants of up to $1000 to help provide youth services in Alleghany County. Proposals must target services to youth (birth -22) and provide for one or more of the Five Basic Promises as outlined by the America's Promise organization (www.americaspromise.org). The Five Basic Promises include relationships with caring adults; safe places and structured activities; a healthy start; marketable skills through effective education; and, opportunities to serve.

Proposals should include a title page containing the project name, project director, sponsoring organization, address, phone; as well as, project start and end dates. The body of the proposal should be no more that three pages in length (single-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font) and address the areas listed below. Individual sections will be scored on a points basis. Attachments in support of the application may be submitted, but their consideration will be at the discretion of the grant screening committee.

Proposals need to be received by Patti Cox at Piney Creek School by 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 15th, 2005. They may be emailed as WORD attachments to coxpe@alleghany.k12.nc.us. Applications received after December 15th, 2005 will not be considered.

Award announcements will be made by January 31st, 2005. Monies must be spent by June 15th, 2006.

Proposal Guidelines:

  1. Organizational Background: Briefly describe your organization, particularly as it relates to the project application. If your project requires the dispersal of funds, address your organization's fiscal ability to do so. (10 points)
  2. Need: Use data sources and other means of verifying the existence of the need you intend to address and the severity of the problem. (12 points)
  3. Project Goals and Objectives: Please state succinctly. (15 points)
  4. Project Plan: Detail how the goals and objectives will be met. List qualifications of project coordinators. (10 points)
  5. Evaluation/Documentation: Show how you will document the impact of the project.
  6. Collaborative/Leveraged Resources: Indicate other collaborating agencies/organizations, funds and resources you will bring to the project. (5 points)
  7. Continued Funding: Address whether the project will require funding past the grant period, and if so, how will that be met. (8 points)
  8. Budget: Include supplies, expenses (travel, phone charges, meeting expenses). Please note that the grant cannot be used for salaries or personnel. Please indicate how equipment costing more than $100 will be disposed of at the end of the grant. (5 points)
